Most of the time, that call gets made on logistics: a shrinking training budget, a workforce spread across time zones that can't all sit in one room, a shrinking window on everyone's calendar. What almost never drives the decision is a look at what's actually happening inside a learner's brain during each format.

Detection accuracy dropped measurably within the first twenty to thirty-five minutes and kept falling from there, even though nothing about the task itself got harder and nothing about participants' motivation had visibly changed. The training room is not exempt from this. A room stays seated for the full session; attention does not. The practical consequence is blunt: the back half of a long session gets delivered to a room that's nominally present and cognitively checked out, and material presented after that twenty-to-thirty-five-minute mark gets encoded less reliably no matter how strong the content or the facilitator is.

The real question isn't "microlearning or traditional." It's what the specific content and the specific behavior change actually require. But that session should never be the only touchpoint.
